Youths in the Niger Delta region have vowed to resist what they
describe as attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari to demonize the former
President, Goodluck Jonathan, so that Nigerians will see him as
corrupt.
They have also condemned in strong terms what they also called
efforts by the current government to intimidate and harass the South-
South and South -East regions into submission, which they stressed, will
not work.
The youth Leaders who raised concern over what he alleged as ploys
by the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government to use the
instrumentality of the courts to take over Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) controlled states in the South –South and South- East
geo-political zones, however, called on the international community to
hold President Buhari responsible in case crisis erupts in the
Niger-Delta region.
“The tactics of the government trying to take over all other states
that are not APC states, is unacceptable. Look at what is happening to
Rivers and Akwa Ibom States; we are even hearing underground that they
are even planning such for Delta State.
“This is a recipe for disaster. I want to say that if the plans of
President Buhari, either by omission or commission is being perfected by
courts, should crisis erupt in the region, the international community
should hold President Buhari responsible.”
While speaking on attempt by the current government to paint the
former President in bad light, the youth Leader said, “The attempt by
the government of the day and his media organ to demonise former
president Goodluck Jonathan, to charge him as a corrupt person which up
till now they have not been able to come up with any concrete fact to
attach to him, will not be accepted by us.
“Since they have resorted to media trial on the former President,
we are watching to see by the time President Buhari’s government will
clamp down on Goodluck Jonathan, we will now take our concrete step.”
