RESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday that Boko Haram has been kicked out of Yobe and Adamawa States, but still remains a force in Borno State.
In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corpo- ration (BBC), the president reiterated that the terrorists have been driven out from the two states, but have reverted to using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in their attacks.
Since 2009when the sect unleashed its campaign of violence, the three North- East states have been main targets. Buhari, who said the military has “technically won the war” against terrorism, expressed optimism that the militants would soon be sent out from Borno.
“These terrorists have resorted to indoctrinating young people but there are no more articulated conventional attacks on centres of communication and populations.
So, I think technically, we have won the war be- cause people are going back into their neighbourhoods.
I can assure you that the Boko Haram sect, as an organised fighting force has been dealt with.
“The most important priority for the government now is to rebuild infra- structure and help all dis- placed people return to their homes.”
At a press conference in Lagos, on Wednesday, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, said the sect has been decimated.
