SUPER Eagles arrived Rubavu, venue of the team’s last group game which comes up Tuesday and trained with coach Sunday Oliseh drumming it hard into the players’ ears that the team must work extra hard against Guinea who he said cannot stop their progress.
According to the team’s media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, the team arrived Rubavu full of expectations. “The team is in good form and training has remained largely on tactics. Coach Oliseh has made it clear to the players that Guinea should not be taken lightly as a lot depends on the game.”
He noted further that but a few knocks here and there, the players are good to do battle against Guinea. “The team will put finishing touches to training today for the encounter against Guinea and I can tell you that everyone is ready,” he stated.
The Super Eagles manager Sunday Oliseh had earlier stated that he planned to stop Guinea’s free-flowing football in Tuesday’s African Nations Championship Group C decider slated for Stade Mganda, Rubavu.
Oliseh described Guinea as a good side that is capable of beating any team if underrated, adding that having watched them against Tunisia on Friday, his players will have to double up their efforts against the pacy Syli Stars strikers.
The Nigeria manager pointed out that staying behind to study Guinea is paying off afterall because it has given the coaching crew a clearer picture of how to approach the match.
“It was cool we waited behind to study Guinea closely in their match against Niger since we are playing them next,” Oliseh told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Guinea play good football and it is our duty to stop them from playing their free flowing football on Tuesday.
“No team should be underrated in this tournament. I have seen them play and they are side to be serious with and I am happy with the mentality of my players
“My team will continue to improve as the tournament continues.
“We are not there yet, but we’ll keep working and fighting until the cup is won even though I have said winning the trophy is no do-or-die affair because we are going through a rebuilding process.
“We are still a work in progress.”
Nigeria needs at least a draw against Guinea to pick a quarter-final ticket while Guinea must win to pick a slot in the knockout stages.
